Police reports indicate that the accident occurred when a private bus traveling from Madurai to Senkottai collided with another bus heading from Tenkasi towards Kovilpatti. The collision left both vehicles severely damaged, prompting an extensive rescue operation conducted by local authorities and fire services.

A high-ranking police officer informed NDTV that preliminary investigations suggest the Keysar bus traveling from Madurai to Senkottai was being operated recklessly. "Investigators believe excessive speed and negligent driving by the Keysar bus driver were the primary factors in causing this tragic accident," officials stated.

The 28 injured individuals are currently receiving medical care at nearby healthcare facilities. Medical personnel at the accident site have indicated that several victims remain in critical condition, suggesting the possibility that the death toll may increase.

Law enforcement has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident, including analysis of surveillance footage and statements from witnesses.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his profound condolences regarding the fatalities and has directed the district collector to ensure that all injured individuals receive high-quality medical treatment.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of six lives in the bus accident that occurred in Tenkasi Kadayanallur. I have immediately instructed the District Collector, who communicated with me from the accident scene, to visit the government hospital and ensure that all affected individuals receive appropriate high-quality treatment. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the deceased and express my sympathies to their families. The government remains committed to supporting the swift recovery of all those who have been injured," the Chief Minister wrote in a statement posted on X.
