Wreath-Laying Ceremony Held For Two Soldiers Killed In Manipur Ambush

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was conducted in Imphal, Manipur to pay tribute to the two Assam Rifles soldiers who lost their lives in Friday's ambush attack in Bishnupur district.

The incident occurred around 6 pm on Friday when unknown gunmen attacked personnel from the 33 Assam Rifles by opening fire on their vehicle. The soldiers were traveling from Imphal to Bishnupur at Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur District when the ambush took place. The attack claimed the lives of two personnel and injured five others.
The fallen soldiers were identified as Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung (58) and Rifleman (GD) Kashav (29).
In response to this tragic incident, the Manipur government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each of the bereaved families. Additionally, each of the five injured soldiers will receive Rs 2 lakh as compensation.
The memorial ceremony saw the attendance of numerous dignitaries including Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, and Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh. Military officials present included 3 Corps Commander Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar (AVSM, YSM), IGAR (South) Maj Gen Ravroop Singh (YSM, SM), and ADGP Manipur Police Ashutosh Sinha. Senior officers from BSF, CRPF, Assam Rifles, and various state government officials were also in attendance to honor the fallen soldiers.
