Unified Stand: Seven J&K Medical Bodies Strongly Condemn Delhi Terror Attack as Violation of Medical Ethics

Seven prominent medical organizations and student associations from Jammu & Kashmir have united to strongly condemn the November 10 Delhi blast, characterizing it as a "cowardly", "barbaric", and "senseless" terrorist act that fundamentally violates humanitarian principles and medical ethics.

The Doctors Association Jammu (DAJ) released an official statement expressing "profound shock over the alleged involvement of individuals from the medical profession in the act," describing it as "a betrayal of the Hippocratic Oath and a stain on the noble medical profession."

Dr. Balvinder Singh, President of DAJ, emphasized: "The medical profession is built on the pillars of saving lives and serving humanity. Any individual who engages in acts of violence and terror, forfeits their right to be called a healer."

The DAJ called for a "thorough and swift probe" by investigating agencies and demanded the "strictest possible punishment" for those found guilty.

Similarly, the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Students Association (JKMSA) issued a forceful statement, noting that reports of suspected medical professionals' involvement were "deeply disturbing" and constituted "a fundamental violation of the Hippocratic Oath".

The JKMSA asserted that medical professionals trained to preserve life "cannot be involved in its destruction without forfeiting their moral standing." They expressed confidence in India's justice system and urged public vigilance against anti-national elements.

These statements follow earlier condemnations from four other major medical organizations: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), Society of Consultant Doctors J&K, Medical Faculty Association (MFA) of GMC/GDC Srinagar, and the J&K Students Association (JKSA). All groups have uniformly denounced the attack that killed and injured innocent civilians, while expressing deep concern regarding allegations connecting medical professionals to the terrorist act.

The DAK labeled the blast "inhuman" and urged authorities to hold perpetrators legally accountable, while reaffirming doctors' commitment to humanitarian values and service. The Society of Consultant Doctors J&K stated that such involvement, if confirmed, would represent "a grave betrayal of the ethics of healing," emphasizing unity against extremism.

The MFA described the violence as "agonisingly painful" and "unacceptable in any civilised society," reiterating its "unwavering commitment to saving lives."

The J&K Students Association, representing medical, paramedical, nursing, and pharmacy students, characterized the blast as "barbaric and cowardly," calling for a "transparent, thorough, and time-bound investigation." The association also condemned profiling of Kashmiri students, asserting, "Every Kashmiri is an Indian, unconditionally... Terror has no religion, no region, and no identity."

Collectively, all seven organizations emphasized that neither acts of terror nor alleged misuse of the medical profession would diminish their resolve to "heal, protect, and serve society and the nation."

The attack claimed 15 lives and injured many others when a Hyundai i20 car driven by suicide bomber Umar un Nabi, a Kashmiri doctor, exploded near the Red Fort.
