PM Modi Unveils 6 Strategic Global Initiatives at G20 Summit to Drive Sustainable Development

Africa's development, according to Prime Minister Modi, is crucial for global advancement.

At the G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced six innovative initiatives aimed at fostering global development. These proposals include establishing a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, launching the Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, creating a Global Healthcare Response Team, developing an Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus, forming an Open Satellite Data Partnership, and implementing a Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative.

During the first session focused on inclusive and sustainable growth, PM Modi emphasized that these initiatives would contribute to comprehensive development, noting that India's civilizational values provide a meaningful path forward.

The G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository will document time-tested wisdom demonstrating sustainable living models and ensure their preservation for future generations.

"India possesses a rich heritage in this domain. This repository will enable us to transmit our collective wisdom to promote good health and well-being," the Prime Minister stated at the summit.

PM Modi, during his three-day visit to South Africa, highlighted that Africa's development is essential for global progress, reaffirming India's continuous solidarity with the continent. The Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative will implement a train-the-trainers approach with the objective of developing one million certified trainers across Africa by the next decade.

"Our shared ambition is to train one million certified trainers throughout Africa over the coming decade. These trainers will subsequently educate millions of skilled youth. This initiative will generate a multiplier effect, building local capacity and enhancing Africa's long-term development," PM Modi explained to G20 leaders.

Additionally, PM Modi proposed establishing a G20 Global Healthcare Response Team to facilitate effective responses during health emergencies.

"We achieve greater strength when we collaborate during health emergencies and natural disasters. Our aim should be to form teams of trained medical experts from G20 nations who are prepared for rapid deployment during global health crises or natural disasters," he elaborated.

He also recommended a G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus to address drug trafficking challenges and prevent the spread of dangerous substances like fentanyl. "This initiative would integrate various financial, governance, and security instruments. Only through such integration can we weaken the drug-terror economy," PM Modi stated.

Advocating for an Open Satellite Data Partnership, the Prime Minister suggested making G20 Space agencies' satellite data available to developing nations for activities such as agriculture, fisheries, and disaster management.

Prime Minister Modi further proposed a Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative to encourage recycling, urban mining, second-life battery projects, and other innovations. This initiative aims to strengthen supply chain security and develop cleaner development pathways.
