Mumbai:
A significant fire erupted in the shanty settlements adjacent to the Harbour line train tracks in Mumbai's Dharavi area on Saturday afternoon. The incident prompted authorities to temporarily halt train services along the affected section, according to official reports.
Based on preliminary information, no injuries have been reported in the incident.
The blaze started at approximately 12:30 pm in the huts situated within the Navrang Compound along the 60-foot road.
A civic official stated that at least four fire engines and additional firefighting vehicles were dispatched to the location to combat the fire.
"There are currently no reports of any casualties," the official confirmed.
Due to the fire's proximity to the railway infrastructure, local train services between Bandra and Mahim stations on the Harbour line have been temporarily suspended, railway authorities announced.
The cause of the fire and the full extent of damage are still being assessed.
A Western Railway spokesperson explained, "The electricity supply to overhead equipment has been disconnected as a precautionary safety measure following the fire incident in shanties adjacent to the Up Harbour line on the eastern side between Mahim and Bandra at approximately 12:15 pm."
Harbour line train services have been regulated until the situation can be brought under control.
"There is no risk to any passengers or trains as services have been regulated and all trains are being kept away from the affected site," the spokesperson added.
