20-Year Imprisonment Verdict for Gurugram Man Convicted of Raping 6-Year-Old Under POCSO Act

A Gurugram court has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a Rs 30,000 fine for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl in 2022. The verdict, delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Jasmine Sharma under the POCSO Act, concluded the case against the accused who was arrested after the victim's father filed a complaint when his daughter revealed the assault that occurred while in the perpetrator's care.

On Friday, a court convicted a man for raping a six-year-old girl and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a monetary penalty, according to police reports.

Additional Sessions Judge Jasmine Sharma delivered the sentence of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the convict.

Police records indicate that on February 4, 2022, a father filed a complaint stating that he had entrusted his six-year-old daughter to the care of Ramesh, a tenant living downstairs in the same building. Upon returning, the daughter informed her father that Ramesh had sexually assaulted her.

Based on this complaint, authorities registered an FIR under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Sector 5 police station.

Police subsequently arrested Ramesh, who originates from Kharman village in Haryana's Jhajjar district. After being presented in court, he was placed in judicial custody.

The prosecution filed a chargesheet in Additional Session Judge Jasmine Sharma's court. Following examination of the chargesheet, evidence, and witnesses brought forward by the police, the court announced its judgment on Friday.
