Gurugram:
On Friday, a court convicted a man for raping a six-year-old girl and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a monetary penalty, according to police reports.
Additional Sessions Judge Jasmine Sharma delivered the sentence of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the convict.
Police records indicate that on February 4, 2022, a father filed a complaint stating that he had entrusted his six-year-old daughter to the care of Ramesh, a tenant living downstairs in the same building. Upon returning, the daughter informed her father that Ramesh had sexually assaulted her.
Based on this complaint, authorities registered an FIR under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Sector 5 police station.
Police subsequently arrested Ramesh, who originates from Kharman village in Haryana's Jhajjar district. After being presented in court, he was placed in judicial custody.
The prosecution filed a chargesheet in Additional Session Judge Jasmine Sharma's court. Following examination of the chargesheet, evidence, and witnesses brought forward by the police, the court announced its judgment on Friday.
