Kerala Couple Weds in Hospital Emergency Room After Bride's Road Accident

A private hospital's emergency room became an impromptu wedding venue when a couple refused to postpone their nuptials despite the bride's road accident injuries, hospital officials reported.

V M Sharon from Thumboli and his fiancée Avani from Kommadi, Alappuzha, exchanged vows at VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi under extraordinary circumstances.

The couple had originally planned their wedding ceremony for Friday noon in Thumboli. However, fate intervened when Avani was involved in a serious accident while traveling to Kumarakom for her bridal preparations.

Early Friday morning, the vehicle carrying Avani lost control and crashed into a tree. Local residents quickly transported her to Kottayam Medical College for initial treatment.

Due to the severity of her spinal injury, medical professionals transferred Avani to the specialized care unit at the private hospital in Ernakulam around midday.

Sharon and his family members arrived at the hospital shortly after learning about the accident. With the auspicious time for their marriage ceremony scheduled between 12:15 PM and 12:30 PM, both families approached hospital management with an unusual request.

After consulting with the medical team, hospital administrators agreed to facilitate the ceremony in the Emergency Department. They carefully arranged the setting to ensure the bride would not experience additional discomfort during the ritual.

In the presence of healthcare professionals, doctors, and close family members, Sharon tied the traditional "thaali" (sacred yellow thread) around Avani's neck at the predetermined auspicious time.

Dr. Sudheesh Karunakaran, Head of Neurosurgery at the hospital, confirmed that Avani had sustained significant spinal trauma and would require surgical intervention soon.

The hospital spokesperson noted that despite the unfortunate circumstances, they were pleased to accommodate the families' wishes to proceed with the wedding ceremony as originally scheduled.
