The Adani Group and the Ministry of Education's Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) division are collaborating to host a significant national initiative aimed at revitalizing 'Indology' at the Adani Corporate House in Ahmedabad, scheduled from November 20 to 22.
Indology encompasses the academic study of India's civilization, languages, philosophies, sciences, and cultural heritage on a global scale. With Indology departments facing decline worldwide, this national programme aims to reestablish India's ownership of its knowledge systems and present them authentically to the international community through research-driven Indian perspectives.
This strategic partnership combines the Adani Group's dedication to nation-building with IKS's mission to integrate India's traditional knowledge frameworks into modern education. Established under the National Education Policy 2020, IKS works to incorporate ancient Indian wisdom across various academic disciplines.
IKS promotes interdisciplinary research, preservation of traditional texts and practices, and practical application of ancient knowledge in contemporary fields including engineering, environmental science, linguistics, public policy, and healthcare. Together, these institutions aim to create a robust, internationally respected foundation for studying and disseminating Indian knowledge.
Historically, Indology has significantly influenced the global understanding of India and impacted numerous academic subjects. However, reduced institutional support over recent decades has weakened its academic prominence. Addressing this challenge, the Adani Group and IKS have jointly initiated a five-year, Rs 13.16 crore programme supporting 14 PhD scholars across leading institutions.
These scholars will conduct research in diverse areas including Paninian grammar and computational linguistics, ancient astronomical systems, indigenous healthcare frameworks, sustainability principles in traditional engineering, political thought, heritage studies, and classical literature.
The selection process for these scholars involved comprehensive national consultation with IITs, IIMs, IKS-focused universities, and distinguished scholars.
This initiative aims to enhance Indology's relevance in contemporary academic discourse and global scholarship by integrating classical knowledge with modern tools such as data science, systems thinking, and multimodal archiving.
