A significant Antarctic expedition has been successfully completed by two Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officers. Dr. Rishi Raj, who serves as Additional General Manager (Operations) at DMRC, undertook this journey alongside Sanjeev Kumar, Chief Station Controller and former Indian Navy serviceman. During their expedition, Kumar performed the honorary ceremony of raising the Indian flag on Antarctica's icy terrain.
This expedition marks a personal milestone for Dr. Raj, who has now visited all 36 Indian states and union territories, as well as all seven continents worldwide. He utilized this Antarctic journey as an opportunity to advocate for environmental protection, a cause he deeply values.
Dr. Raj, who has authored 28 books and created more than 600 short films, expressed concern about Antarctica's melting landscapes. "Save our mother Earth. Our planet is fragile, and it needs us," he emphasized. He dedicated his achievement to India's youth, encouraging them to pursue ambitious dreams while remaining environmentally conscious.
The trend of corporate sponsorship for Indian explorers and achievers continues to grow. The Adani Group exemplifies this support through backing various individuals, from those undertaking polar expeditions to chess prodigies like R Praggnanandhaa.
Among the Adani Group's most prominent individual sponsorships is its support for Praggnanandhaa. In 2024, the conglomerate formally announced its long-term commitment to the chess grandmaster. Gautam Adani, the Group's Chairperson, stated he was "extremely proud to support" Praggnanandhaa, who expressed gratitude for backing that would enable him to focus on bringing further honors to India.
The Adani Group's support extends beyond chess through its "Garv Hai" initiative, which has sponsored over two dozen athletes across disciplines including wrestling, boxing, javelin throw, archery, and running. Gautam Adani frequently connects this support to national pride and the potential of young Indians.
Through its CSR arm, the Adani Foundation, the Group also invests in social development. In 2025, the Foundation committed Rs 2,000 crore to establish 20 world-class K-12 schools in collaboration with GEMS Education, with 30 percent of seats reserved for underprivileged children.
