Nishant Kumar touched Nitish Kumar's feet and congratulated him on taking the oath as Bihar's Chief Minister for the tenth time.
In Patna, as JDU leader Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Bihar's Chief Minister for a historic 10th term, prominent NDA figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ceremony. Among the distinguished guests in the front row at Patna's Gandhi Maidan was Nitish Kumar's only son, Nishant. At 50 years old, Nishant represents an anomaly in Bihar's political environment, where political leaders typically groom their children as their successors.
Unlike many political heirs, Nishant maintains a low profile and rarely engages with the media. However, he made an exception today. In an exclusive conversation with NDTV during the significant ceremony, he stated, "I congratulate my father for taking the oath for the 10th time and express my gratitude to the people for ensuring our victory. I also thank God."
The Nitish Kumar-led JDU-BJP alliance achieved a remarkable victory with 202 seats in the Assembly elections. The BJP secured 89 seats, while the JDU won 85 seats - nearly doubling their previous tally of 43 from 2020.
When asked if he had anticipated such a decisive victory for his father, Nishant replied, "I hoped that he would win, but people trusted us more than we expected. We won 43 seats last time, but my father kept working, and people supported him wholeheartedly this time. I thank them."
Nishant emphasized that women voters played a crucial role in the NDA's victory, noting that his father had prioritized women's empowerment throughout his two decades in leadership. He expressed gratitude to the workers and leaders of JDU's coalition partners - BJP, LJP (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Rastriya Lok Morcha - for their contributions to the alliance's significant win.
When NDTV inquired about rumors regarding his potential entry into politics, Nishant simply responded with a smile.
Professionally, Nishant is a software engineer who graduated from the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra. About eight years ago, he had explicitly stated his disinterest in politics: "I have neither interest in politics nor any knowledge about this field. My first love is spiritualism, and as of now, I am proceeding on the path of spiritualism." Recently, however, he has been observed accompanying his father at various events and is reportedly participating in political discussions within the party.
