An Unsettling Encounter: Delhi Man's Approach to Korean Tourists Creates Controversy

The viral video has prompted widespread discomfort and criticism across social media.
A controversial interaction between an Indian man and two Korean visitors at Delhi's India Gate has become the center of online debate after being widely shared on social media platforms. The Instagram video captures the man approaching the female tourists who were exploring the landmark.
In the footage, the man can be heard saying, "Hello, excuse me, my dream, punch, punch," in what appears to be an attempt to initiate a fist bump with the women.
Visibly confused by his request, one tourist responded, "You want to punch me?"
The person recording the video quickly clarified by saying "Fist bump," after which the women obliged his request.
The situation escalated when the man revealed his "other wish" was to hug the tourists. Though one woman agreed, her body language demonstrated obvious discomfort during the awkward embrace.
As he departed, the man added, "You are so cute. I love you," while extending his hand. The tourists responded with nervous laughter, seemingly attempting to ease the tense situation.
The Instagram post was shared with the caption: "Indian local meets Korean girls."

While the brief clip gained significant traction online, it primarily drew negative attention.
The video triggered a wave of critical responses, with numerous viewers denouncing the interaction as disrespectful and inappropriate.
One commenter expressed collective embarrassment with the straightforward message: "Sorry from India."
Others pointed out the tourists' evident unease, with a comment noting, "That girl held her breath as she hugged him."
Many expressed concern about the man's persistence in the encounter. One user commented, "First a fist bump, then a hug, then an 'I love you'? This is harassment, not humour."
Several responses emphasized respecting personal boundaries, including advice that read, "Maintain distance from these types of people in India."
Another viewer shared their personal reaction: "I felt embarrassed seeing this video."
Some comments suggested deeper societal issues were at play, with one person writing, "That is why education is important," while another called for consequences: "These two men should be punished by the police for disrupting the Korean girls."
According to government statistics, over the past five years, the United States, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada have been among the top countries for tourist arrivals in India.
Official data indicates Foreign Tourist Arrival (FTA) figures reached 99.52 lakh for 2024.
Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Germany, France, and Singapore complete the list of the ten countries with the highest number of visitors to India.
