If Muslims, Christians Worship India, Then They Are Hindus: RSS Chief

Mohan Bhagwat emphasized that Hinduism should not be interpreted in purely religious terms.

Guwahati (Assam):

Highlighting the inclusive nature of Hinduism beyond religious connotations, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat stated that Muslims and Christians who worship India and follow Indian culture, even while maintaining their own customs and traditions, can also be considered Hindus.

During his address to intellectuals, scholars, editors, writers, and entrepreneurs in Assam on Tuesday as part of the RSS's centenary celebrations, Bhagwat explained, "Those who carry forward the devotion to the motherland, the pride of our ancestors and the legacy of our culture are all Hindus. Hinduism should not be taken in religious connotations. Hinduism and Hindu culture are not food and worship. It is inclusive."

"It can take in many more people. If Muslims and Christians, even without giving up their worship, customs and traditions, worship this country, follow Indian culture, and take pride in Indian ancestors, then they are Hindus..." he added.

Bhagwat also elaborated on five key social transformations - Panch Parivartan: social harmony, Kutumb Prabodhan (family awakening), civic discipline, self-reliance, and environmental protection.

The RSS Chief particularly emphasized the importance of strengthening family institutions, encouraging families to preserve their ancestral stories and instill responsibility and cultural pride in younger generations.

He noted that figures like Lachit Borphukan and Srimanta Shankardeva should inspire all Indians, stating that though they were born in a particular province, they represent national icons.

Bhagwat highlighted the significant contributions of RSS Swayamsevaks during India's freedom struggle, recalling Dr. Hedgewar's imprisonment during the Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and the participation of numerous Swayamsevaks across the country in the Quit India Movement of 1942.

Describing the Northeast as a shining example of India's unity in diversity, Bhagwat affirmed that historical figures like Lachit Borphukan and Srimanta Shankardeva hold national significance rather than merely regional importance.

The session concluded with Bhagwat calling upon all sections of society, especially the distinguished citizens present, to collaborate selflessly for nation-building efforts.
