Chhattisgarh's Anti-Terrorism Squad has detained two minors in Raipur for alleged connections with ISIS, as confirmed by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma.
Following comprehensive investigations, authorities apprehended the two boys who were reportedly working under the guidance of Pakistan-based ISIS modules and maintaining an active presence on social media through fake identities.
Deputy CM Sharma, who also holds the home portfolio, stated, "These minors were influenced by extremist content and were attempting to influence others via Instagram. They possessed substantial information and were extensively utilizing internet platforms under the ISIS name."
The teenagers have been charged under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
This represents the first case of this nature in Chhattisgarh, and investigations continue to identify if additional individuals are involved.
"We plan to expand the ATS team, particularly in Raipur and other major Chhattisgarh cities, to identify such individuals and take appropriate action. I will request Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to further strengthen the ATS team," Sharma added.
The Deputy CM encouraged citizens to report any social media accounts spreading anti-national content to law enforcement immediately.
Police officials revealed that the ATS identified the two minors who were allegedly operating online for ISIS.
Investigations determined that Pakistan-based ISIS modules were operating fake social media accounts to destabilize India and compromise internal security through cyberspace.
These handlers, operating from Pakistan, allegedly utilized Instagram to target Indian youth and teenagers, attempting to radicalize them, encourage anti-India activities, and promote violent extremism and jihadist ideology.
The Pakistani operatives added these minors to Instagram group chats for systematic radicalization. The teenagers were subsequently encouraged to distribute ISIS propaganda and violent content online.
Evidence suggests the minors were being motivated to establish an ISIS module in Chhattisgarh.
Through sustained cyber surveillance by the ATS and partner agencies, the two ISIS-influenced minors were tracked and detained. Officials confirmed that action has been taken against them based on technical evidence.
