Navi Mumbai International Airport To Begin Operations From December 25

Mumbai's newest Greenfield airport, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), is set to commence commercial operations on December 25 (Christmas Day) with 23 scheduled daily departures, as announced on Tuesday.

During its initial month, NMIA will operate for 12 hours daily between 08:00 hours and 20:00 hours, with capacity to handle up to 10 flight movements per hour.

The first flight to arrive at NMIA will be IndiGo 6E460 from Bengaluru, scheduled to land at 8:00 AM. This will be followed by the airport's first outbound service, IndiGo 6E882 departing for Hyderabad at 8:40 AM.

In the launch period, passengers will have access to services operated by IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air, connecting Mumbai to 16 major domestic destinations.

The airport plans to transition to 24-hour operations by February 2026, expanding to 34 daily departures to accommodate the growing needs of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

NMIA is currently conducting comprehensive Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials with all stakeholders, including security agencies and airline partners.

Enhancing security preparedness, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was formally inducted at NMIA on October 29, 2025, with deployment across key airport functions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated NMIA on October 8, initiating a phased operational rollout that prioritizes passenger safety, reliability, and comfort.

The new airport will significantly increase aviation capacity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL) is the special purpose vehicle established for developing, constructing, operating, and maintaining this Greenfield international airport project.

NMIAL operates as a public-private partnership between Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL) holding 74 percent stake, and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) holding the remaining 26 percent.
