A man identified as Sohail Ahmed has been arrested after allegedly attempting to attack two taxi drivers with a knife at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, police reported on Monday.
The incident occurred late Sunday night, leading to Ahmed's arrest under the Arms Act and his subsequent placement in judicial custody.
Surveillance footage captured the man rushing toward taxi drivers with a long knife near Terminal 1's arrival lane. Fortunately, on-duty CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel quickly intervened, subduing the attacker and securing the weapon before anyone was harmed.
The CISF shared video evidence of the incident on their X (formerly Twitter) social media account, stating: "Timely intervention by CISF averted a major crime at Bengaluru Airport. Around midnight on 16 Nov, a man armed with a long knife charged toward two taxi drivers at the T1 Arrival area of Bengaluru Airport. ASI/Exe Sunil Kumar & team acted swiftly, overpowered the attacker and recovered the knife, preventing any harm to passengers or staff."
Officials immediately handed the suspect and all involved individuals over to KIA (Kempegowda International Airport) police for further investigation.
According to preliminary inquiries, the attack appears to have been motivated by retaliation for an earlier dispute between the parties.
The CISF further emphasized their "commitment to safeguarding passengers, airport personnel and critical aviation infrastructure."
A senior police officer confirmed: "We registered a case under the Arms Act and arrested the accused. He has been sent to judicial custody."
