The terrorists responsible for the Delhi suicide car bomb attack had plans to weaponize drones before executing their November 10 strike near the Red Fort, according to investigators.
This sophisticated terror module's strategy bears striking similarities to the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, where drones served as primary weapons for causing disruption and destruction.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) uncovered this alarming threat following the arrest of a second terror suspect who collaborated with suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi.
Jasir Bilal Wani, also known as Danish, a Jammu and Kashmir resident like the first arrested suspect Amir Rashid Ali, was apprehended in Srinagar by an NIA team.
According to the NIA statement, Danish provided technical expertise for planning terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to develop rockets prior to the deadly car bombing.
The suspect from Anantnag district functioned as an active co-conspirator in the attack orchestrated by this white collar module and its suicide bomber. The NIA confirmed they are investigating all possible angles and pursuing multiple leads.
Sources revealed to NDTV that Danish attempted to create powerful drones equipped with large batteries capable of carrying heavier explosives along with cameras. He reportedly possesses experience in developing small weaponized drones.
The terror module intended to deploy weaponized drones over crowded areas to maximize casualties, a tactic previously employed by Hamas and various groups in war-torn Syria, according to sources.
Many countries worldwide now recognize the potential threat of terrorist drone attacks. To counter this danger, nations have developed varying levels of defensive capabilities based on their technological advancement. India has been actively strengthening both its drone strike capabilities and anti-drone systems at scale.
