New Visa Requirements: Indian Travelers Must Obtain Visa for Iran Entry and Transit from November 22

Starting November 22, Iran is ending its visa-free entry policy for Indian passport holders. All Indian citizens must now obtain a valid visa before traveling to or transiting through Iran, marking a significant change from previous arrangements that allowed conditional visa-free entry for Indian tourists visiting Iranian cultural and religious destinations.

Indians To Require Visa To Travel, Transit Through Iran Soon

Iran has announced the suspension of its visa-free entry policy for Indian citizens holding ordinary passports. Starting November 22, all Indian travelers will be required to obtain a valid visa prior to entering or transiting through Iran.

Previously, Indian tourists enjoyed visa-free access to Iran under specific conditions, as part of Tehran's strategic initiative to enhance tourism and strengthen diplomatic relations with major Asian countries.

The new policy mandates that all Indian nationals with ordinary passports must apply for and secure an Iranian visa before their journey. Travelers must possess this visa at the time of boarding and even when merely transiting through Iranian airports.

Iran has been a popular destination for Indian tourists seeking to explore its rich cultural heritage, including historic cities like Isfahan and Shiraz, religious sites such as Qom and Mashhad, along with stunning desert landscapes and ancient Silk Road pathways.

The country has also served as an important transit hub, particularly for budget-conscious Indian travelers en route to European or Central Asian destinations.
