Bengal Governor Conducts Raj Bhavan Security Sweep After Trinamool MP's Weapons Stockpile Allegations

Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose ordered a comprehensive search of Raj Bhavan involving police and security forces after Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee alleged that BJP criminals and weapons were being harbored there. The search found nothing suspicious, intensifying the political conflict between TMC and BJP ahead of West Bengal's Assembly elections.

On Trinamool MP's 'Guns Stockpile' Jab, Bengal Governor Orders Raj Bhavan Sweep

New Delhi: Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose personally led a comprehensive search operation at Raj Bhavan on Monday, accompanied by Kolkata Police and central security forces. This unusual step was taken in response to serious allegations made by Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, who had claimed that BJP "criminals" were being harbored in the Governor's residence and that weapons were being stockpiled within the premises.

In an interview with NDTV following the search, which involved bomb squads and sniffer dogs examining sections of Raj Bhavan and found no illegal items, Governor Bose stated, "The comments by MP Kalyan Banerjee are outrageous, malicious, obnoxious, and completely baseless. I've observed a concerning tendency among Bengal politicians to make wild allegations without expecting consequences."

He continued, "If Banerjee's claims had been accurate, specific actions would have been necessary. Conversely, if they were false, different measures would be required. To establish the truth publicly, I authorized an operation conducted jointly by state and central authorities. Nothing suspicious was discovered."

"This clearly establishes that the MP was making false allegations," Bose concluded, warning that "very strong action" would be taken against the Trinamool leader.

According to PTI sources, Governor Bose interrupted his tour of northern districts to oversee the search operation, which began at 2:15 pm after the Raj Bhavan had been evacuated. Officials confirmed that security personnel were deployed at the police outpost within the Raj Bhavan grounds during the operation.

Banerjee had made his provocative claims on Saturday, shortly after Governor Bose had commented on the controversial special intensive revision of electoral rolls ordered for Bengal ahead of next year's Assembly election. Bose had described this revision as 'essential to clean up the election process'.

The Governor's office has now filed a formal police complaint against Kalyan Banerjee, while also warning law enforcement officials that non-compliance with the order would result in consequences.

In his inflammatory remarks, the Trinamool MP had suggested that the Governor should first "stop giving shelter to criminals and distributing arms and ammunition to them... to kill Trinamool Congress workers." Banerjee had further exclaimed, "As long as an incompetent Governor like you remains, as long as a BJP-servant Governor remains, you will never see anything good happening in West Bengal..."

The incident highlights the escalating tensions between Trinamool Congress and BJP as both parties prepare for an intense battle in next year's Assembly election, where the BJP will make another determined attempt to unseat Trinamool from power in West Bengal.
