At least 45 people are feared to have died in a tragic bus accident in Saudi Arabia.
The bus that crashed into a diesel tanker and erupted in flames was scheduled to transport 54 Indian pilgrims, but fortunately, eight individuals chose private transportation instead, a decision that ultimately saved their lives.
A senior official from Hyderabad confirmed that all pilgrims had booked their journey from Mecca to Medina with the same travel company.
"54 people had booked the same travel agent. Of these, eight people took private transport. We received a list of 46 people. We are currently working to identify and verify them with Saudi Arabian authorities. Once completed, we will provide further information," the official stated.
The official added that all agencies from both central and state governments are actively engaged in the matter. "We anticipate receiving concrete information soon. We were informed about the incident this morning, and immediately our Chief Minister and senior officers directed us to establish a control room," he explained.
Approximately 45 individuals are feared dead after the bus carrying Umrah pilgrims collided with a diesel tanker and caught fire near Medina in Saudi Arabia around 1:30 am (IST). Local media reported that approximately 42 victims were Indian nationals, primarily from Hyderabad in Telangana. Only one person survived the crash, identified as Mohd Abdul Shoiab, though his condition remains unknown.
According to local reports, passengers were asleep when the bus caught fire, leaving them with virtually no opportunity to escape.
Rescue teams reported that the bus was completely charred, making victim identification extremely difficult.
The Consulate General of India in Jeddah has established a 24/7 control room at 8002440003. The state government has also issued control room numbers +91 7997959754 and +91 9912919545 to assist victims' families.
