Umar Mohammad was identified as the driver of the vehicle that exploded.
Investigations into the terror attack near the Red Fort, which has claimed 13 lives thus far, have revealed that the driver of the Hyundai i20 received approximately Rs 20 lakh through illegal financial channels as funding.
Sources indicate that the accused, Umar Mohammad (also known as Umar Nabi), acquired substantial quantities of fertilizers from a market in Haryana's Nuh, making cash payments for these purchases.
Several individuals involved in hawala transactions have been detained for questioning, according to the sources.
A white Hyundai i20 detonated at a parking area near Red Fort on Monday evening, resulting in injuries to 20 individuals. The explosion was so powerful that numerous vehicles in the vicinity sustained damage. The area quickly descended into disorder as people rushed to assist those who were injured.
The explosion occurred shortly after authorities arrested eight individuals, including three medical professionals, and confiscated 2,900 kg of explosives following the discovery of a "white collar" terror network involving Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind operating across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
In their efforts to reconstruct the precise chronology of events preceding the explosion near Red Fort, investigators have compiled a detailed inventory of every vehicle that entered the adjacent parking facility where the exploded car remained stationary for three hours, as previously reported by sources.
Mohammad, born in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir in 1989, was employed as a doctor at Al Falah University in Faridabad, an institution that is also under scrutiny. Investigators have obtained surveillance footage from inside the Red Fort Metro station capturing moments immediately before and after the explosion at the traffic signal outside. They are also showing Mohammad's photograph to drivers and vehicle owners to verify whether he engaged with anyone while the car was parked.
In addition to Mohammad, authorities have arrested Muzammil Ganaie and Shaheen Sayeed, former physicians also connected to Al Falah University. Law enforcement recovered 360 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from the college premises.
The Crime Branch has filed two First Information Reports against the university on charges of cheating and forgery following regulatory violations reported by the University Grants Commission and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
This legal action was initiated after both statutory organizations highlighted "major irregularities" in the university's operations.
