Police in Bhopal have apprehended a 21-year-old man who established a sophisticated counterfeit currency operation in his residence after teaching himself through YouTube tutorials.

Authorities arrested Vivek Yadav following the discovery of advanced equipment, imported materials, and numerous fake Rs 500 notes in his possession.

According to officials, Vivek, who completed education only up to Class 10, transformed himself into a "currency-printing expert" through watching online videos, conducting internet research on counterfeiting techniques, and studying relevant books.

Law enforcement received intelligence on Friday about an individual attempting to distribute counterfeit Rs 500 notes near a local school. A collaborative team from the Crime Branch and Piplani police station successfully tracked and caught the suspect with fake currency in his possession.

The investigation took a surprising turn when officers searched his residence. Inside Vivek's room, authorities uncovered high-quality color laser printers, precision scanners, imported glossy paper, specialized ink, cutting instruments, design software, and partially completed stacks of counterfeit currency.

The young counterfeiter had already produced 23 fake Rs 500 notes and possessed sufficient materials to print hundreds more.

An official explained, "The accused initiated his process by scanning a genuine note. Using this as a template, he digitally enhanced watermarks, shadows, security-thread areas, and borders. He then printed the design on special paper to replicate the texture of authentic currency notes."

During questioning, Vivek confessed to studying counterfeiting methodologies extensively. He acquired ink, paper, and additional materials through online platforms and local marketplaces. Authorities have seized all equipment related to the operation.

This incident marks the third significant counterfeit currency operation dismantled in Madhya Pradesh within two months.

In Khandwa, police recovered fake Rs 500 notes with a total face value of approximately Rs 20 lakh from a madrassa room in Paithiya village, resulting in two arrests.

Additionally, at the MIT intersection in Dautkhedi, Mandsaur police confiscated 76 counterfeit notes valued at Rs 38,000 during an enforcement action, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
