A devastating fire erupted in Muzaffarpur's Motipur Nagar Parishad area in Bihar on Friday night, claiming the lives of at least five people who died immediately at the scene, according to local officials.
Kumar Raghvendra Raghav, Chairman of Motipur Nagar Parishad, confirmed that five additional individuals suffered injuries in the incident and are currently receiving medical care at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).
Firefighting operations remain active as crews continue working to extinguish the blaze. Initial investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire.
"A tragic incident occurred early this morning on Neta Road in Ward No. 13 of Motipur Nagar Parishad. Five members from the same family perished in the fire, while five others sustained serious injuries and are now undergoing treatment at SKMCH. This is an extremely serious incident. We offer our condolences to the deceased and hope for the recovery of those receiving medical attention. Fire brigade personnel are still on site, and efforts to control the fire continue. Based on preliminary assessment, it appears the fire likely originated from a short circuit," Kumar Raghvendra Raghav told ANI.
Officials reported that firefighting teams were dispatched immediately to the location following reports of the incident.
