Mother Kills Two Young Sons for "Ancestral Salvation" in Gujarat: A Tragic Case of Familial Violence

A horrific incident occurred in Gujarat's Navsari district where a woman murdered her two young sons allegedly for the "salvation of her ancestors," according to police officials on Friday.

The accused, Sunita Sharma, has been taken into custody. She also attempted to kill her father-in-law, who managed to escape by fleeing the residence.

Authorities reported that the tragedy took place in an apartment located in the Desra area of Bilimora town in Navsari district on Thursday night.

According to police, Sharma, originally from Uttar Pradesh, resided in the apartment with her husband Shivkant, their two sons aged seven and four, and her in-laws Indrapal and Susri.

Shivkant was suffering from typhoid and had been hospitalized at a private medical facility, officials stated.

"Indrapal and Susri visited the hospital to deliver food to their son Shivkant and went to bed after returning home. Sunita remained in her bedroom. Unexpectedly, in the middle of the night, Sunita, who had been mentally disturbed for several days, began praying to a deity and strangled both her sons to death, claiming it was for the salvation of her ancestors," Deputy Superintendent of Police B V Gohil explained.

Following this, Sharma entered her in-laws' room and attempted to strangle her father-in-law as well, but he managed to escape the house and alert neighbors for assistance.

During this time, she locked the front door from inside and refused to open it despite neighbors repeatedly knocking, the police officer said.

Eventually, a police team arrived at the scene, forced entry into the residence, and arrested Sharma, who was found sitting beside the bodies of her children, Gohil reported.
