New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a triumphant speech Friday evening, cleverly redefining the term 'M-Y' - traditionally associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal's Muslim-Yadav vote bank - as 'Mahila (women) and youth'. "This is the new 'M-Y' formula in Bihar," Modi declared to enthusiastic supporters chanting 'phir ek baar, NDA sarkar' and 'Modi, Modi'.
This strategic redefinition came after the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United secured a decisive victory over the Mahagathbandhan alliance led by RJD and Congress. The contest was effectively settled within two hours of vote counting beginning.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance was projected to win more than 200 seats in Bihar's 243-member assembly as Modi addressed the celebration at the party headquarters in Delhi.
The NDA's overwhelming success was fueled by unexpected support from Muslim and Yadav communities. These demographics historically favor the RJD, with most exit polls predicting over 70% of this 'M-Y' vote bank would maintain their loyalty this election.
Surprisingly, both communities shifted their support to the BJP alliance instead, dealing a significant blow to RJD's hopes of repeating their impressive 2020 performance when they secured 75 seats.
Without this traditional vote base, and facing a resurgent JDU and Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party - which together captured 103 seats complementing BJP's 90 - the opposition was thoroughly defeated.
During his victory address, Modi repeatedly referenced the "jungle raj" characterization that BJP leaders have used to criticize the law-and-order situation during RJD's previous governance under Lalu Prasad Yadav.
"When I discussed jungle raj during campaigning, the RJD didn't object but the Congress did. Today I reiterate, the corrupt government will not return," the Prime Minister emphasized, echoing his strong statements from the previous week before the second voting phase when he defined "jungle raj" as "katta, krurta (cruelty), katuta (social resentment)."
In his concise but pointed speech, Modi also made predictions about Congress's political future, warning their allies - particularly referencing the Trinamool and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, both facing elections next year. "Congress has no positive vision for the country," he stated.
The Congress party suffered another embarrassing defeat in Bihar, adding to Rahul Gandhi's extensive list of electoral failures, which BJP's Amit Malviya gleefully highlighted on social media.
