Delhi Police Arrest Nepalese Domestic Worker Attempting to Flee After Rs 24 Lakh Theft from Noida Employer

A domestic worker has been apprehended by Delhi Police while attempting to escape to Nepal after allegedly stealing cash and valuable jewelry from his employer in Noida, officials confirmed on Friday.

The suspect, Ganesh Gharti Magar, a Nepalese national, was caught near ISBT Kashmiri Gate on Thursday evening following intelligence received by authorities. Police reported that he had stolen approximately Rs 8.25 lakh in cash and gold ornaments valued at around Rs 16 lakh.

According to law enforcement sources, Crime Branch officers received a tip that Magar had been hiding in Delhi for two days and was planning to board transportation to Nepal from the Kashmiri Gate terminal. Acting swiftly on this information, a police team was dispatched to the location where they successfully intercepted the suspect.

During subsequent questioning, Magar, who was employed as a cook and household assistant in Noida, admitted to taking a blue bag containing the valuables from his employer's residence on November 10. Investigators revealed that the theft included Rs 8.25 lakh in cash along with gold jewelry estimated to be worth Rs 16 lakh.

Police officials stated that Magar claimed to be experiencing financial difficulties due to personal debts amounting to nearly Rs 11 lakh. "The accused informed police that he had already utilized Rs 15,000 from the stolen funds," explained a senior officer involved in the case. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to recover the stolen items.
