Bihar Political Veterans Secure Ninth Consecutive Assembly Wins Since 1990 as NDA Dominates Elections

Two Bihar ministers, BJP's Prem Kumar and JDU's Bijendra Prasad Yadav, have achieved the remarkable feat of winning nine consecutive elections since 1990. Their continued success mirrors the broader NDA triumph in Bihar's recent assembly elections, where the alliance crossed 200 seats while the opposition Mahagathbandhan faced significant losses, with RJD dropping from 75 seats in 2020 to just 25 seats currently.

When Tejashwi Yadav was merely three months old in 1990, two political stalwarts began their legislative journeys that would span over three decades. BJP's Prem Kumar and JDU's Bijendra Prasad Yadav have achieved a remarkable milestone by securing their ninth consecutive victories from Gaya Town and Supaul constituencies respectively in the Bihar Assembly elections.

After 35 years of political service, Kumar triumphed with an impressive margin of 26,423 votes, while Yadav secured his win by 16,448 votes. For current updates on the Bihar Assembly Election Results, follow the live coverage.

Both veterans currently serve as ministers in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's cabinet. Prem Kumar oversees the cooperatives and environment departments, while Bijendra Yadav holds the significant portfolio of Power Minister.

In the Gaya Town constituency, Kumar faced competition from Congress candidate Akhauri Onkar Nath and former MP Dhirendra Agarwal representing the Jan Suraj Party. The Congress candidate finished second, with Agarwal taking the third position.

Meanwhile, Bijendra Yadav competed against Congress's Minnatullah Rahmani in Supaul, who ended up a distant second in the electoral contest.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has demonstrated exceptional electoral strength by surpassing the 200-seat milestone, marking one of its strongest performances in Bihar's political history. Conversely, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) faces one of its poorest electoral outcomes in the state.

The NDA's commanding victory can be attributed significantly to the JDU's resurgence, which has made substantial gains while its ally BJP improved upon its 2020 performance. Another crucial contributor was Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which is leading in 17 of the 29 constituencies it contested.

The Mahagathbandhan alliance has suffered considerable losses in this election. The RJD, which emerged as the single largest party with 75 seats in 2020, has now been reduced to approximately 25 seats. Similarly, Congress has seen its representation plummet from 19 seats in the previous election to just five currently. The Left parties have also experienced significant setbacks in these elections.
