The 2025 Bihar assembly election counting reveals a strong performance by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, currently leading in 162 seats against the Mahagathbandhan's 77. Exit polls had predicted this outcome, with interesting developments including potential power shifts between BJP and JDU, and voter demographic patterns showing women favoring NDA while Yadav communities support the opposition alliance.

Bihar Results LIVE: NDA Leads In More Than 150 Seats, Mahagathbandhan Trails

Bihar Assembly Polls Results 2025: Former allies Tejashwi Yadav and Nitish Kumar are now electoral opponents as counting proceeds.

New Delhi:

The vote counting for Bihar's 2025 assembly election commenced this morning, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JDU, currently establishing a significant lead over the opposition Mahagathbandhan led by Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Here are the key developments in this crucial electoral battle:

Current trends indicate the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has surpassed the majority threshold of 122 seats in Bihar's 243-member assembly, leading in 162 constituencies. The opposition Mahagathbandhan, under Tejashwi Yadav's RJD leadership, trails significantly with leads in just 77 seats. Prashant Kishor's newly formed Jan Suraaj party, despite low expectations, is showing promising results in two constituencies.

NDTV's comprehensive 'poll of exit polls' had projected the NDA, which also includes Union Minister Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Morcha, to secure 146 seats, comfortably exceeding the majority requirement by 24 seats.

The Mahagathbandhan coalition, comprising RJD, Congress, and Left parties, appears headed for a significant decline with projections of only 92 seats, considerably fewer than their previous tally of 110. Jan Suraaj, making its electoral debut, was expected to secure minimal representation with just one seat.

All 13 exit polls analyzed by NDTV forecast a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal United alliance. Today's Chanakya and CNX provided the most decisive predictions, suggesting the BJP-JDU would claim over 150 seats while limiting the RJD-Congress to under 90. Axis My India offered a contrasting view, predicting a much narrower margin of victory, potentially as slim as three seats. Vote Vibe and Chanakya Strategies also anticipated close contests, though consistently with the BJP-JDU emerging victorious.

Interestingly, these predictions revealed some unexpected scenarios. Peoples Pulse exit poll suggested that while the BJP-JDU alliance would win between 133-159 seats against the opposition's less than 101, Tejashwi Yadav emerged as the preferred chief ministerial candidate to potentially replace Nitish Kumar.

Another significant development could be the reversal of power dynamics between BJP and JDU. In 2020, BJP unexpectedly won more seats than JDU, becoming the dominant partner. However, this election might restore the previous balance, with Matrize suggesting JDU could secure between two and ten seats more than BJP.

A third noteworthy potential outcome is BJP replacing RJD as the single-largest party. RJD won 75 seats in 2020, narrowly surpassing BJP's 74, though falling short of forming government. Current exit polls position BJP as the leading party with projected 67-70 seats compared to RJD's 56-69.

Voter demographics continue to show established patterns. Women voters traditionally favor Nitish Kumar, while the Yadav community supports RJD.

Axis My India data indicates 45 percent of women voters selected the NDA, while 90 percent of Yadav voters chose the Mahagathbandhan. The opposition alliance is also expected to capture approximately 80 percent of Muslim votes.

The Bihar election took place on November 6 and 11 in two phases following intense campaigning between the competing alliances and other significant political figures. These include Prashant Kishor, whose party may impact results by splitting votes; AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi; and Tejashwi Yadav's estranged brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, adding a familial rivalry dimension to this electoral contest.
