Worker Injured in Under-Construction Jetty Collapse at Gujarat Maritime Board Site in Devbhumi Dwarka

A floating jetty pillar collapsed at a Gujarat Maritime Board construction site in Okha, causing one worker to be hospitalized while others were rescued from the Arabian Sea. This incident follows a fatal crane collapse at the same location last year, raising questions about maritime infrastructure safety protocols in the region.

One worker sustained injuries while several others were successfully rescued after a section of an under-construction jetty collapsed into the Arabian Sea near Okha in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district on Thursday, according to police officials.

The incident involved the collapse of one of four pillars supporting a floating jetty at the Gujarat Maritime Board's construction site, as reported by Okha marine police station sub-inspector RR Jaru.

"Approximately 10-12 workers jumped into the sea following the collapse. All but one escaped without injuries. The injured worker was rescued from the water and immediately transported to a hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment," stated the sub-inspector.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated with response teams from the Okha marine police and a nearby stationed ambulance boat arriving quickly at the scene.

This unfortunate incident occurs approximately one year after a previous accident at Okha jetty where three individuals lost their lives in a crane collapse.

The authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the structural failure at this maritime infrastructure project in Devbhumi Dwarka.
