Security forces apprehended two "hybrid" terrorists in Sopore area of Baramulla district on Thursday, recovering a pistol and two hand grenades during the operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Najar and Shabir Ahmad Mir, who were captured during a joint checkpoint operation conducted by Sopore Police, 22 Rashtriya Rifles, and 179 Battalion CRPF.
According to a police spokesperson, the arrests were made at a security checkpoint established in Sadeeq Colony, Mominabad Sopore, following specific intelligence about suspicious movement in the area.
"The suspects, who were traveling from Fruit Mandi Sopore toward Ahat Baba Crossing, attempted to escape upon noticing security personnel. However, the joint team acted swiftly and successfully apprehended both individuals at the scene," the spokesperson stated.
Security forces recovered incriminating materials and weapons from the suspects, including one pistol, one magazine, 20 live rounds, and two hand grenades.
The term "hybrid" terrorist refers to individuals who maintain normal lives and regular occupations while occasionally carrying out terrorist activities assigned by their handlers before returning to their routine daily lives.
This terminology was introduced around 2019 by Jammu and Kashmir police to describe individuals who had not previously been on the security agencies' radar prior to their arrest.
