Parag Jain, a veteran in intelligence and security affairs, has been assigned expanded responsibilities within India's security framework.

New Delhi:

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has officially designated senior IPS officer Parag Jain with the additional charge of Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat. Mr. Jain currently holds the position of Secretary, Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) under the Cabinet Secretariat.

This assignment takes effect immediately and will remain in place until either a permanent appointment is made or further directives are issued, whichever comes first.

The Department of Personnel and Training issued the official order on Wednesday through the Secretary of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and Establishment Officer, mandating immediate implementation.

With his extensive background in intelligence and security operations, Parag Jain will now manage dual critical portfolios, ensuring seamless coordination across national security domains.

The Secretary (Security) position encompasses vital oversight of internal security protocols, inter-agency intelligence coordination, and implementation of protective measures for critical infrastructure and high-ranking officials. This interim arrangement demonstrates the government's priority to maintain operational continuity in crucial security sectors during transitional periods.

According to informed sources, this dual responsibility will facilitate enhanced alignment between R&AW operations and domestic security frameworks, particularly in areas of counter-terrorism initiatives, cybersecurity threats, and intelligence gathering along border regions.

The appointment coincides with ongoing modernization efforts within India's national security architecture.

Under Jain's leadership, advanced technologies including artificial intelligence-powered predictive analytics and real-time threat monitoring systems are expected to receive increased focus. His previous work at R&AW has involved the integration of big data and machine learning for enhanced intelligence analysis—capabilities likely to be extended throughout the security apparatus.

The directive has been distributed to key government stakeholders, including the Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretaries to the President and Vice President, Secretaries General of both parliamentary houses, and all Union Ministries.

The order has also been communicated to Chief Secretaries across all states. This strategic appointment underscores the central government's emphasis on maintaining agility and specialized expertise in national security leadership by consolidating intelligence and operational oversight under a single experienced officer.
