Bharuch:
A devastating boiler explosion at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Gujarat's Bharuch district resulted in two fatalities and approximately 20 injuries early Wednesday morning, a local official confirmed.
The catastrophic incident unfolded around 2:30 am at the factory situated within the Saykha GIDC industrial zone.
"A powerful explosion in the facility's boiler triggered a massive fire," stated Bharuch District Collector Gaurang Makwana, who later confirmed that emergency responders successfully contained the blaze.
"The blast's intensity was so tremendous that it caused the factory structure to collapse. While most workers managed to evacuate safely, two individuals became trapped and subsequently perished. Their bodies were recovered from the debris after firefighters extinguished the flames. Nearly 20 workers escaped the incident with minor injuries," Makwana explained.
Emergency response teams including fire brigade personnel, police forces, and forensic experts are conducting a thorough investigation of the site, particularly as some witnesses have reported one person remains unaccounted for and possibly trapped within the collapsed structure following the explosion, according to Makwana.
He further noted that representatives from the Director Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) have arrived at the location to conduct an official inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
These officials are verifying whether the pharmaceutical facility possessed all necessary licenses and regulatory permissions, the District Collector added.
