High-Ranking Maoist Commander with Rs 5 Lakh Bounty Surrenders in Jharkhand Under 'Nai Disha' Policy

The surrendered Maoists have taken advantage of the state government's 'Nai Disha' policy initiative, according to police officials.
In Latehar district of Jharkhand, two high-ranking Maoists surrendered to police authorities on Wednesday. Police officials confirmed the development during a press briefing.
The surrendered individuals were identified as Brajesh Yadav, also known as Rakesh Ji, a sub-zonal commander from Gumla district, and Awdhesh Lohra, alias Rohit Lohra, an area commander from Latehar district. Both were members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP).
Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav provided details about the surrender, stating, "Two active Maoists of the JJMP have surrendered today. There are 10 pending cases against Brajesh Yadav. He was working as a sub-zonal commander carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh." The SP further mentioned that Awdhesh Lohra from the Herhanj area in Latehar has five pending cases against him.
"Both have surrendered before us under the aegis of the state government's initiative 'Nai Disha' policy. All the benefits under this policy are being given to their families," Gaurav elaborated.
Shailendra Kumar Sinha, Inspector General of the Palamu range, described the development as "a big achievement for Latehar police." He attributed the surrender to "the joint efforts of the police and the public that two of the extremists have surrendered."
