The son of Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata, Neville Tata, was unanimously appointed on Tuesday as a trustee to the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.

Sir Dorabji Tata Trust holds the position of largest shareholder with 27.98 percent ownership in Tata Sons, the holding company for the diverse salt-to-software conglomerate.

This appointment comes shortly after the resolution of a power struggle between two factions within the trusts—one led by Noel Tata and another by Mehli Mistry, a close associate of the late Ratan Tata. Together, these trusts control a 66 percent stake in Tata Sons.

Mistry was removed from key trusts but chose not to pursue legal action as many had anticipated.

The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of 32-year-old Neville, who reportedly joined his father's business Trent in 2016 and has successfully led the clothing retail chain Zudio.

Neville's appointment, widely interpreted as Noel strengthening his influence over the family-named trusts, begins Wednesday and extends for three years.

The Sir Dorabji Trust board also appointed Tata Group veteran Bhaskar Bhat as a trustee. Bhat has served in various leadership positions, including heading the watchmaker Titan and serving as the group's brand custodian.

Additionally, Venu Srinivasan was appointed as a trustee for a three-year period in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

The Maharashtra government recently modified regulations that prevent trustees from being appointed for life, which limited Srinivasan's tenure to three years. Srinivasan, reportedly close to Noel, has also been named vice chairman of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.
