Mumbai:
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) opposition coalition in Maharashtra conducted a crucial coordination meeting in Mumbai on Monday, with a primary focus on enhancing district-level planning and optimizing decision-making processes across the alliance partners. Representatives from Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar), and Shiv Sena (UBT) announced that local-level structures are being activated to eliminate friction and ensure a unified campaign approach.
When questioned about the potential inclusion of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the MVA, leaders from all three constituent parties confirmed that no official proposal has been received from Raj Thackeray's party as of now.
With elections approaching, NCP(SP) state president Shashikant Shinde revealed that the alliance has initiated meetings throughout Maharashtra to refine strategy and prevent disputes over seat-sharing. He reaffirmed that the MVA has not received any proposal from the MNS for potential collaboration.
Congress representative Harshvardhan Sapkal reinforced this position, adding that his party had reviewed coordination at division and district levels and plans to reconvene on November 19 to evaluate progress. The alliance leaders emphasized that Monday's discussions were specifically focused on municipal elections and protecting the "electoral process."
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab clarified that the meeting concentrated exclusively on civic polls, and each participating party has designated a coordinator to address any issues that might emerge at the local level.
The Kolhapur 'Exception': NCP Factions Exploring Local Alignments
In an interesting development in Kolhapur, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) and Ajit Pawar-led NCP have formed an alliance for the Chandgad Nagar Parishad elections under the banner of Rajarshi Shahu Vikas Aghadi.
According to local leaders, this collaboration has Sharad Pawar's endorsement and emerged after the BJP reportedly failed to initiate alliance discussions.
BJP representatives have dismissed this partnership as indicating weakness. Meanwhile, NCP leaders have suggested that similar local-level arrangements could be considered in other regions if circumstances require.
Shashikant Shinde characterized the Kolhapur development as an "exception," explaining that district chiefs have been granted flexibility in decision-making, with the sole restriction being alliances with the BJP.
He further mentioned that discussions are ongoing in other districts to explore tactical cooperation between the NCP factions, while emphasizing that the MVA remains committed to contesting "strongly and cohesively" across Maharashtra.
