Another School Bus Gets Stuck In Drain In Bengaluru, Second Incident In A Day

Bengaluru's deteriorating road infrastructure continues to create dangerous situations as a third school vehicle incident was reported within a week, with two occurring on the same day.
The most recent incident took place today near Skanda Moksh Society in Panathur-Balagere area, where a school bus became trapped when one of its wheels sank into an under-construction stormwater drain.
Footage shows a JCB machine attempting to extract the bus from the drain while onlookers gather to witness the rescue operation.
This incident follows another accident earlier today where a school minivan became stuck in an open drain on the Panathur-Bellandur road while transporting students to a school in Doddanekundi.
Just a week ago, on September 12, a similar incident occurred when a school bus on Bengaluru's Balagere Main Road nearly toppled after sliding into mud while attempting to overtake another vehicle. A dashcam from a following car captured the moment when the bus veered off the broken road edge and began sinking into soft ground. Fortunately, local residents quickly helped evacuate all children safely through the emergency exit, with no injuries reported.
The infrastructure crisis has now evolved into a political issue. Following public outcry, especially from tech companies and residents, Andhra Pradesh Human Resources Minister Nara Lokesh invited BlackBuck co-founder Rajesh Yabaji to relocate his business to Vizag after Yabaji expressed frustration over Bengaluru's infrastructure problems.
In a statement directed at Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who had dismissed such appeals as "blackmail," Lokesh remarked, "Here's what sets Andhra Pradesh apart from others-we don't dismiss our people's genuine grievances as blackmail. We treat them with the dignity and seriousness they deserve."
Hi Rajesh, can I interest you in relocating your company to Vizag? We are rated among top 5 cleanest cities in India, are building best-in-class infra, and have been rated the safest city for women. Please send me a DM. https://t.co/HLfP2CVTys

Mr. Shivakumar had previously told NDTV, "He (Rajesh Yabaji) cannot threaten the government. Blackmailing a government won't work... No one will leave Bengaluru."
Prominent business leaders have also voiced concerns about Bengaluru's pothole problem, urging the government to take action. Biocon's executive chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw called for "emergency measures," while Aarin Capital and Manipal Global Education chairman Mohandas Pai described the situation as a "big, big failure of governance."
In response to the mounting criticism, DK Shivakumar, who also serves as Bengaluru Development Minister, has established a November deadline for contractors to repair all potholes across the city.
On Wednesday, Mr. Shivakumar stated on social platform 'X': "Contractors have been given a final deadline to fill the potholes within November to resolve the problem. Since a clean Bengaluru and smooth traffic are our goals, GBA will provide relief from potholes as soon as possible."
