Mumbai:
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police took the statement of businessman Raj Kundra, husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, on Monday regarding a Rs 60-crore cheating case, officials confirmed.
Kundra (50) underwent more than five hours of questioning by EOW officers in relation to the case, according to an official.
To prevent media attention, his statement was recorded at an undisclosed location.
"We documented Kundra's statement today (Monday) and will likely call him in again next week, as numerous witnesses need verification before proceeding with further interrogation," the official explained.
The official added that Shetty, also named as a co-accused, has not yet received a summons as the EOW continues gathering evidence.
The EOW is investigating the Rs 60 crore fraud case filed in Mumbai against the celebrity couple.
The case was registered following a complaint against the high-profile pair and several unidentified individuals for allegedly defrauding a businessman of Rs 60.4 crore in a loan and investment arrangement connected to their former company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.
Businessman Deepak Kothari (60), a director at the non-banking financial company Lotus Capital Finance Services, filed the complaint.
Earlier this month, authorities issued Lookout Circulars (LOCs) for both Shetty and Kundra.
An LOC is a notice used by authorities to prevent individuals from leaving the country or to monitor their movements. It notifies immigration and border officials to watch for specified persons.
