Guwahati:

In Assam's Cachar district, authorities have detained a retired school principal for allegedly posting a controversial comment on social media regarding Monday's blast near Delhi's Red Fort.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the post, police summoned the accused, identified as Nazrul Islam Barbhuiyan, for questioning on Tuesday afternoon.

Barbhuiyan, who resides in the Rongpur area of Silchar, was initially taken to the Silchar Sadar Police Station before being transferred to the Superintendent of Police's office for further interrogation.

Officials reported that Barbhuiyan, who previously served as principal of Banskandi NMHS School in Cachar, had commented on a social media post about the Red Fort blast, writing that "elections are coming ahead."

Authorities indicated that the remark seemed to "politicize" an incident connected to national security.

On Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned such online reactions, stating, "Many users were seen celebrating and some shared 'happy' emojis. Are they sympathizing with terrorists? We will take strict action against such comments."

The deadly blast near Red Fort in New Delhi on Monday killed nine people and injured 20 others. At 6:52 pm, a slow-moving Hyundai i20 exploded at a traffic stop near the Red Fort Metro Station, leaving mutilated bodies and damaged vehicles scattered throughout the area.
