4 Charged Over Viral Video Of Prisoners Dancing, Drinking In Karnataka Jail

The Bengaluru police have filed charges against four undertrial prisoners after a video showing them dancing and using prohibited items inside the Central Jail went viral.

The case was initiated following a complaint from Imamsaab Myageri, the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara.

According to Myageri's complaint, the footage showed inmates Karthik alias Jitre Patrick, Dhananjay alias Renukaprasad, Manjunath V alias Koli Manja, and Charan Rao B dancing inside Barrack-8, Room-7 of the prison facility.

The incident came to light on November 9, 2025, when several television channels broadcast the footage of the undertrial prisoners engaging in prohibited activities within the prison premises.

"The inmates were clearly seen using items that are prohibited inside the prison," Myageri stated in his complaint.

Sources indicate that the prisoners were allegedly consuming alcohol and non-vegetarian food within the jail premises.

The video, recorded on a mobile phone which is strictly banned inside the prison, was circulated outside the facility and eventually reached media outlets.

Prison authorities have requested a comprehensive investigation to determine who recorded the video, how the mobile phone was smuggled inside, who transmitted the footage outside the prison, and who provided it to the media.

The complaint calls for appropriate legal action against both the inmates involved and those responsible for recording and leaking the video.

In response to the incident, the Karnataka government has suspended Myageri along with the assistant superintendent of the prison, while also transferring K Suresha, the Chief Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail.

The leaked footage allegedly showed several high-profile inmates including a terror suspect, a serial rapist, and a gold smuggler in possession of mobile phones.

Following the revelation that the video featured a terror suspect allegedly linked to ISIS recruitment with access to a mobile phone, the BJP staged a demonstration demanding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation.
