The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has now taken over the investigation as directed by the Union Home Ministry.
Srinagar:
Relatives of the suspect in the Delhi blast near Red Fort metro station have expressed disbelief regarding his alleged involvement in terrorist activities.
Reports indicate that Dr. Umar Nabi was allegedly operating the Hyundai i20 vehicle used in Monday's explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station parking area, which resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals. Family members confirmed he originates from Koil village in Pulwama district.
Muzamil, Dr. Umar Nabi's sister-in-law, described him as an introverted person since childhood who maintained a limited social circle and concentrated primarily on his academic pursuits and professional responsibilities.
"He was employed as a faculty member at an educational institution in Faridabad. He contacted us on Friday, mentioning he was occupied with examination duties and would return home after three days. He has always been a reserved individual since his early years," Muzamil stated.
She emphatically denied the possibility of Umar being involved in terrorism.
"Our family made significant sacrifices to ensure he received proper education so he could support himself and the family. This accusation is beyond comprehension," she added.
According to Muzamil, Umar's most recent visit to Kashmir occurred approximately two months ago.
Delhi Police's initial investigation suggests the possible use of ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators in the explosion, potentially connecting it to a terror module discovered in Faridabad, where authorities seized 2,900 kg of explosive materials and inflammable substances. An official source noted, "Final reports are still pending."
Authorities have registered a First Information Report under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act, invoking sections related to punishment and conspiracy for terrorist attacks.
The investigation has subsequently been transferred to the National Investigation Agency by the Union Home Ministry.
