Delhi Blast Investigation: Mother of Suspected Red Fort Bomber to Undergo DNA Testing in Pulwama

Delhi authorities have detained the mother of Dr. Umar Mohammad, the suspected suicide bomber in Monday's Red Fort explosion, for DNA testing to confirm his identity. The blast killed nine and injured 20 near the historic monument, as investigators uncover connections to a newly discovered "white collar" terror network involving medical professionals.

Suspected Delhi Bomber's Mother Detained In Pulwama, To Undergo DNA Test

Delhi Police Personnel and Rapid Action Force have been deployed at the blast site near Red Fort Metro station following Monday's explosion.

The mother of the suspected car bomber involved in the explosion near Delhi's Red Fort will undergo DNA testing in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

This testing aims to verify whether the human remains recovered from the blast location belong to Dr. Umar Mohammad, a physician from Pulwama who authorities believe was the suicide bomber responsible for the explosion that claimed nine lives and injured at least 20 others.

"We have taken the mother of the suspect to collect DNA samples in order to match them with the parts found at the scene of the blast," an official stated to PTI.

Following the Delhi blast, three additional doctors were detained from Faridabad's Al-Falah University for questioning in connection with the incident.

Officials reported that Umar's mother and two brothers were taken into custody for interrogation Monday night shortly after the explosion. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team had previously gathered all human remains and evidence from the Red Fort area for forensic analysis.

Dr. Umar Mohammad, born in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir on February 24, 1989, worked as a doctor at Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad. Investigators believe he was closely associated with Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr. Mujammil Shakil, two physicians arrested Monday during investigations into a new "white collar" terror network uncovered by police teams from Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

According to investigators, Umar fled from Faridabad after learning of his associates' arrests and the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives in recent days. Sources indicate he "panicked" and detonated the explosive device near Red Fort, the 17th century Mughal monument that ranks among India's most visited tourist destinations.

Security footage reportedly shows a white Hyundai i20 car parked near Red Fort for approximately three hours with the driver inside before it moved toward the Metro Station traffic signal and exploded shortly thereafter.

The attack reportedly utilized Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) as the explosive material. "Umar Mohammad and his associates used Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) to carry out the attack. They placed a detonator in the car and carried out the terror attack in a crowded area near Red Fort," sources revealed.
