Police sources identified Umar Mohammad as the perpetrator behind the blast.
Government sources have issued a stern warning following the Delhi terror blast, stating that any terror operation on Indian soil will be considered an act of war. This declaration came after preliminary investigations connected the explosion near the historic Red Fort—which resulted in multiple casualties—to a Jaish-e-Mohammad terror module operating from Haryana's Faridabad.
High-level sources emphasized India's position, affirming that "Operation Sindoor is still on," referencing the military response initiated after the Pahalgham attack.
This blast represents the first major security incident since April 22, when terrorists killed 26 civilians at a tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which subsequently triggered military action against Pakistan under Operation Sindoor.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a firm commitment that those behind the Delhi car explosion would face consequences. "The country's premier investigative agencies are conducting a prompt and comprehensive inquiry into the incident—investigation results will soon be made public," Singh stated at a New Delhi conference.
"I want to strongly assure the nation that those responsible for this tragedy will be brought to justice and will not be spared under any circumstances."
Forensic experts examined the remains of a vehicle on Tuesday, following the powerful explosion near the iconic Red Fort in the densely populated Old Delhi area.
According to police sources, Umar Mohammad, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama, owned the i20 car involved in the blast. Investigators believe Umar, a medical professional, became alarmed after authorities arrested two key members of the network—Dr. Mujammil Shakeel and Dr. Adil Rather—and confiscated 2,900 kg of suspected explosives in Faridabad over recent days.
Umar reportedly belonged to a radical doctors' organization that coordinated via Telegram and maintained connections with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a Pakistan-based terrorist organization, according to sources.
Prior to the Delhi explosion, police in neighboring Faridabad, Haryana reported recovering 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable materials from two rented accommodations of a Kashmiri doctor, Muzammil Shakeel.
Shakeel and Rather were among eight individuals arrested for allegedly participating in a "white-collar terror" network involving Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, with operations spanning across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, officials reported.
The explosive materials recovered in Faridabad included ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and sulphur, totaling 2,900 kg.
