"We Do Not Feel Safe": Family Of Injured Says Red Fort Car Blast Was A Huge Shock

New Delhi:

Monday evening's devastating car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort has resulted in nine fatalities and 20 injuries. Among the seriously wounded are 28-year-old Ankush Sharma and 20-year-old Rahul Kaushik.

The two young men were returning from a visit to the Gauri Shankar Temple in Shahdara on their motorcycle when they stopped at a traffic light.

At precisely 6:52 pm, a massive explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 vehicle. The blast threw Ankush onto a nearby car, causing 80 percent burns to his face and body.

Rahul was thrown to the road, suffering injuries to his legs and body. His family reported that all his hair was burned off in the incident.

Despite his injuries, Rahul managed to transport his friend to the hospital. However, upon returning home, his own condition deteriorated significantly, necessitating admission to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

Speaking to NDTV, Rahul's mother tearfully described the aftermath. "He was terrified when he arrived home. He has injuries on his feet, hands, head, and ears. His hearing has been affected," she explained. The family has requested government protection following the incident.

Ankush's sister-in-law reported that his face was "completely burnt" and he requires plastic surgery. "Particles have accumulated all over his skin," she stated.

"This incident has been enormously shocking for us. Despite Delhi's extensive security measures, such a massive explosion occurred. This is not a minor incident. It's extremely serious and cannot be tolerated," she added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that authorities are "exploring all possibilities" and will conduct a comprehensive investigation.

"All options will be investigated immediately, and we will share the results with the public. I will be visiting the site shortly and will also visit the hospital immediately," he added.
