In response to a devastating explosion near Red Fort, approximately 20 fire engines were dispatched to the scene.

Following a catastrophic high-intensity explosion near Red Fort that claimed thirteen lives and injured 24 others, the Chandni Chowk Market Association president Sanjay Bhargaw has announced the market's closure for Tuesday.

Both prominent landmarks are situated in Old Delhi's congested area. Red Fort stands as one of Delhi's premier tourist attractions, while Chandni Chowk represents one of the capital's oldest and most bustling marketplaces, drawing numerous visitors.

The explosion occurred at approximately 7 pm near Red Fort Metro Station, leaving devastating scenes of mangled bodies and destroyed vehicles throughout the area.

According to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, the blast happened in a "slow-moving vehicle that stopped at the red light" which had passengers inside.

"Today at about 6.52 pm, an explosion occurred in a slow-moving vehicle that stopped at the red light. There were passengers inside. Other vehicles got affected. All the agencies are taking stock of the situation. Some deaths happened, and a few people got injured," he stated.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer AK Malik reported, "We got information that there was a blast in a car. We responded immediately, and seven units were sent to the spot. At 7:29 PM, the fire was brought under control."

Authorities deployed approximately 20 fire engines to the location, and police have completely cordoned off the surrounding area.
