Delhi Red Fort Explosion: 8 Dead, 24 Injured as Multiple States Placed on High Alert

Mumbai has been placed on high alert following a deadly explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi that claimed eight lives and injured 24 others. Security agency sources informed NDTV that security measures are being intensified at key locations throughout Maharashtra's capital.

A high alert has also been issued in Bihar, which is currently preparing for elections.

Police across all districts in Uttar Pradesh and Dehradun have been placed on high alert as well. Authorities in Lucknow have ordered increased patrols and security checks in sensitive areas.

In response to the Delhi explosion, security has been strengthened along the Indo-Nepal border. The Border Security Force (BSF), in conjunction with local police, has been alerted to monitor the situation closely. Both the BSF and intelligence departments are vigilantly tracking all individuals crossing the open border with Nepal.

Security agencies in Rajasthan have likewise been alerted following the Delhi blast. Director General of Police Rajiv Sharma has instructed all Range Inspector Generals, District Superintendents, and personnel at sensitive police stations to maintain high alert status. Enhanced security measures have been implemented in border districts and sensitive regions. Following these directives, vehicles entering from other states are undergoing thorough inspection.

Regarding the Delhi Red Fort blast, the Delhi Police chief reported that the explosion occurred in a slow-moving vehicle near the Red Fort traffic signal at approximately 6:52 pm, while the vehicle's occupants were still inside.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer AK Malik stated that they received information about a car explosion. By 7:29 pm, firefighters had successfully contained the blaze.

The powerful blast severely damaged 22 nearby vehicles. Officials at Lok Nayak Hospital confirmed the fatalities after the injured were transported there. Video footage and images from the scene reveal extensive destruction.

Authorities promptly dispatched about 20 fire engines and secured the heavily trafficked tourist area. One local resident told NDTV that the explosion was "very loud," adding that they witnessed a "huge fireball."

The anti-terror squad and Delhi Police Special Cell are currently on site conducting their investigation.
