Mujammil Shakeel (L) and Adil Ahmad Rather (R).
Faridabad:
Just one day after authorities seized 350 kg of explosives along with various arms and ammunition from a rented accommodation, an additional 2,563 kg of suspected explosives were discovered at another house in Haryana's Faridabad. Both properties were rented by Dr. Mujammil Shakeel, a physician from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, who has been identified as a crucial connection in a "white-collar" terrorist network involving radicalized professionals.
According to preliminary police investigations, the recovered substance is believed to be ammonium nitrate.
The Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir Police have been jointly conducting raids at this residence since morning.
Shakeel, employed at Al Falah Medical College and Hospital in Faridabad, was recently arrested in connection with the case. Al Falah University, located in Faridabad's Dhoj approximately 45 km from Delhi, is a privately operated institution recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
On Sunday, officials recovered 350 kg of explosives, 20 timers, assault rifles, handguns, and ammunition from a room that Shakeel had been renting in Dhoj for approximately three and a half years. He was apprehended by police 10 days prior after evidence emerged linking him to the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed.
During the raid, authorities seized a pistol with eight live rounds, two empty cartridges, and two additional magazines. Eight large suitcases, four small suitcases, and a bucket were also found in the accused's room.
The second residence is situated in Fatehpur Taga village, just 4 kilometers from Dhoj. The property belongs to a maulana (a Muslim scholar), who was taken into police custody earlier that day.
A sophisticated terrorist network involving radicalized professionals, many of whom are medical doctors, was uncovered by police and intelligence agencies during raids across various locations in Jammu and Kashmir (Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal, and Shopian) and Faridabad over recent days. The joint operation by Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Police, ongoing for approximately 15 days, has resulted in the recovery of more than 2,900 kg of bomb-making materials.
Previously, Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, a Kashmiri doctor from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, was detained for allegedly displaying posters supporting the banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.
Following Shakeel's interrogation, Faridabad police also recovered a Swift car belonging to a female doctor employed at Al-Falah Hospital. An assault rifle and a pistol were discovered in the vehicle. The woman doctor has subsequently been arrested.
The professionals involved in this terror module are reportedly directed by handlers based in Pakistan and other countries, and are engaged in various terrorist activities, including the distribution of posters supporting terrorist groups.
In addition to Shakeel and Rather, five other individuals have been arrested: Arif Nisar Dar, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar from Srinagar, Molvi Irfan Ahmad from Shopian, and Zameer Ahmad Ahanger from Ganderbal, according to intelligence sources who spoke to NDTV.
Besides weapons and explosive agents, authorities have also discovered incriminating documents, including instructional booklets on manufacturing IEDs (improvised explosive devices).
