AIIMS Resident Doctors Appeal for Resolution of Delhi Medical Council Shutdown Affecting Healthcare Services

New Delhi: The AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) in New Delhi has appealed to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh regarding the complete shutdown of the Delhi Medical Council (DMC).

Hundreds of resident doctors working at major government institutions including AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, and Lady Hardinge Medical College have been unable to obtain their mandatory DMC registration due to the ongoing administrative crisis at the council.

In their formal communication to Gupta and Singh, the RDA emphasized that physicians who have relocated to Delhi from various parts of India are experiencing significant professional challenges. These include delays in appointment letters, salary disbursements, and legal impediments to practicing medicine within Delhi.

"Doctors who have come from different regions across the country to serve in Delhi are finding themselves unable to complete the required registration procedures," the association noted in their statement.

The RDA stressed that resident doctors constitute the essential workforce in Delhi's government and tertiary healthcare facilities. They have urged immediate intervention to either resume DMC operations or establish a provisional registration mechanism to prevent disruption of medical services.

The Delhi government dissolved the Delhi Medical Council on June 17 following directives from Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. This action was taken after the Health Department identified multiple administrative and procedural irregularities, including unauthorized extension of tenures and financial improprieties.
