Assam Student's Body Recovered From Septic Tank, Rape-Murder Suspected

A missing college student's remains were discovered in a septic tank in Jorhat district, Assam, on Monday, four days following her disappearance.

The victim, an 18-year-old female student at Nandanath Saikia College in Titabor, disappeared on November 7 while returning home from her educational institution.

The student's relatives filed a missing person report, which was subsequently followed by claims of police negligence during their investigation. The officer heading the Titabor police station has been placed on reserve closure due to alleged investigative negligence.

According to police sources, authorities suspect the student was sexually assaulted prior to being killed, with forensic confirmation pending from the post-mortem examination. Investigators also determined she had been approximately six months pregnant.

Law enforcement has detained 63-year-old Jagat Singh, as the septic tank containing the victim's body was located on his store property. Police officials stated that Singh has admitted to murdering the student and disposing of her remains in the septic tank.

Authorities have also apprehended Jagat Singh's two sons, Krishan Singh and Jeevan Singh, along with a pharmacist named Rekibuddin Ahmed. The accused face charges related to murder and violations of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Outraged community members gathered at the Titabor police station, calling for justice for the deceased student.
