21-Year-Old Karnataka Man Arrested Under POCSO Act for Sexual Assault of Minor Sister Resulting in Pregnancy

The perpetrator has been placed in judicial custody following his arrest.

Police in Karnataka's Koppal have apprehended a 21-year-old man on allegations of forcing his underage sister into a physical relationship, resulting in her pregnancy.

The situation came to light on October 30 when the young girl gave birth at a district government hospital. She had sought medical attention due to severe back discomfort and was unaware of her pregnancy until she delivered the child that same evening.

In her testimony to hospital officials, the minor disclosed that her brother had coerced her into a physical relationship in February. He had promised marriage and support, despite her apprehensions about social norms and potential rejection.

According to the victim, when she attempted to inform her family, her brother resorted to blackmail and threatened to take his own life.

Police reports indicate that the victim's father had remarried and was living with his daughter and two sons.

Based on the minor's statement, authorities have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the man under section 64(2)(m) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and applicable sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The accused has been arrested and placed in judicial custody, according to police.

The 21-year-old perpetrator remains in judicial custody following his arrest.
