A video capturing an Indian Railways coach attendant disposing of garbage from a moving train has gone viral, prompting immediate action from railway authorities. The footage, which has circulated widely across social media platforms, has ignited significant discussion about waste management protocols and cleanliness standards within India's rail transportation system.
The incident was documented and shared on Instagram by a passenger named Abhishek Singh, who reported that it took place on November 4, 2025, while traveling on the Sealdah-Ajmer Express (12987). Singh was journeying from Kanpur to Jaipur when he witnessed the attendant discarding a bag of trash directly onto the railway tracks.
According to Singh's account, when confronted about the improper disposal, the attendant responded dismissively, asking, "Should I take it home?" This exchange further intensified public concern over staff conduct and environmental responsibility.

In his Instagram caption, Singh elaborated: "I was travelling from Kanpur to Jaipur on 4th November 2025 by Sealdah-Ajmer Express, when this incident came in front of me, of which I made a video. The man seen in the video is an employee of the Indian Railways."
Singh further explained his attempt to address the situation: "I tried to make him understand that this was a mistake, but this guy was not ready to accept that what he had done was a mistake, and even after all this, he kept repeating the same thing in front of me again and again."
In response to the viral video, North Western Railway took decisive action. They commented on the post confirming that the attendant, identified as Sanjay Singh, had been immediately removed from service. Additionally, they imposed penalties on the contractor responsible for onboard housekeeping services.
Their official statement read: "Your complaint regarding throwing of garbage on track in train no 12987 from running train has been viewed seriously and Contractual staff Sh Sanjay Singh has been removed with immediate effect. Strict penalty has been imposed on the contractual firm."
The railway authority also announced preventative measures: "Also, counselling drive has been started with immediate effect to educate OBHS staff to dispose of garbage at nominated stations only to prevent recurrence of such cases. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted, continuous efforts shall be made to improve passenger services."
The incident has sparked considerable discussion across social media platforms, with many users expressing concern about environmental impact and calling for higher standards of civic responsibility among railway personnel and passengers alike.
One user commented, "I just wonder how come nobody has a need to stop him? Why are we constantly just observing such crimes against India? Anything that happens, we just watch."
Another observer noted, "But the most important thing look at his face he is very proud to do it."
Many praised Singh for documenting and reporting the incident, with one comment stating, "Hatts off to u bro for raising such issues."
