Tragedy struck in Assam's Dima Hasao district when three first-year IT students fell into a waterfall, resulting in one confirmed death and two students still missing.
Authorities have recovered the body of 20-year-old Sarbakritika, a National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar student from Uttar Pradesh, following the incident.
The search continues for her two classmates - 19-year-old Radikha from Bihar and 20-year-old Sauhard Rai from UP - who remain unaccounted for after the accident.
According to police reports, a group of seven students had visited Boulsol waterfall, located approximately 55 km from NIT Silchar, for a weekend picnic on Saturday. The tragedy unfolded around 2 pm when one student fell into the water, prompting two others to attempt a rescue, only to slip into the waterfall themselves.
Police immediately launched search operations with assistance from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel.
NIT Silchar officials have confirmed that all three affected students were enrolled at their institution.
The waterfall, a popular recreational spot, became the site of this unfortunate incident that has shaken the academic community.
